After a career that has seen him play plenty of Serie A football (especially at Atalanta), Marco Sportiello has arrived at Milanello at the height of maturity on a technical and athletic level. Standing 192 cm tall, the Desio native, who was born in 1992, is capable of making a significant contribution both between the sticks and beyond his own box. It is important to note that he is comfortable with the ball at his feet, especially with AC Milan’s build-up play in mind.

Sportiello has put in plenty of hard work to reach where he is today. He became part of Atalanta’s youth sector in 1999 and moved to Seregno in 2010, going on to enjoy a solid season in Serie D. The following two seasons saw him climb the Italian football pyramid: he played for Poggibonsi in the Lega Pro Seconda Divisione in 2011/12 and then for Carpi in the Prima Divisione in 2012/13. A starter for the Emilian side, he memorably helped them win promotion to Serie B.

He made his Serie A debut in 2014 and alternated with teammate Consigli between the sticks at Atalanta. In January 2017, he moved to Fiorentina, where he remained for a year and a half and continued to grow. He then displayed his qualities for Frosinone in 2018/19 before returning to Bergamo in the summer of 2019.

The final chapter of his Atalanta experience was the most important: he made his Champions League debut in La Dea’s historic victory in Valencia on 10 March 2020, and he continued to convince with reliable and assured performances. He joined the Rossoneri in the summer of 2023, and, having matured as a goalkeeper, is ready to be called upon.
