AC MILAN RESCUE A LATE POINT AT SAN SIRO

The pressure finally paid off with Hernandez’s stoppage-time equaliser securing a draw

It was a game that was there to be won ahead of kick-off but then the match itself is always its own story as AC Milan were held to a draw by Parma at San Siro. Nobody will be too happy with the 2-2 draw but it will have to do after the side came back from 0-2 down (Hernani Jr. and Kurtić ) with Hernández netting a brace thanks to a stoppage-time equaliser that was worth a point. The Rossoneri dominated the game and deserved more but showed great character all the same. Stefano Pioli’s side doesn’t give up. Milan paid the price for a few moments when they lacked focus at the back and individual episodes went against the team such as the injuries for Gabbia and Bennacer along with the disallowed Castillejo goal and the fact the side hit the woodwork an incredible four times. The Gialloblù managed to capitalise on the only two real chances that they created. Both the performance and desire are still valid for Milan as highlighted by Theo’s goals after his excellent display while Kalulu also put in an encouraging performance after coming on. Now after eleven matches in Serie A, the Diavolo remain clear at the top of the table on 27 points although the lead on the chasing pack has now slipped to three points. It’s now time to put the disappointment to one side and use it as motivation for the next away match which kicks off at 20:45 CET on Wednesday 16th December at Genoa.

THE REPORT

Things immediately got off to a tough start for Milan who saw Gabbia go off with a knee problem five minutes in before conceding in the 13th minute. Gervinho kept going up the left before cutting the ball back for Hernani Jr. who was able to stroke the ball first-time beyond Donnarumma. In the 14th minute, Çalhanoğlu fired just over with a volley from the edge of the area and there was a worry in the 20th minute when Karamoh had a chance with a dangerous header. In the 23rd minute, Castillejo looked to have drawn level after turning home a square Hernández ball but the goal was ruled out for the closest of offsides. The Rossoneri continued to dominate but just weren’t quite clinical enough to make it count. In the 40th minute, the side incredibly hit the woodwork twice, first from Díaz and then Çalhanoğlu with the follow-up effort. In stoppage time, Hakan hit the post again from a long-range free kick before the whistle blew.

The second half began with Leão and Hauge joining the action and Milan remained on the attack. In the 49th minute, a Kessie header looked bound for the net but struck a defender. Çalhanoğlu saw another shot hit the crossbar in the 51st minute. Things were already tough and got harder still in the 56th minute when Parma doubled their lead. Hernani found Kurtić with a cross and he was able to find the net despite Donnarumma getting something on it. Milan heads stayed up however and they found a way back into the match immediately after in the 58th minute with Hernández heading home from a Çalha corner. In the 75th minute, Bennacer also picked up an injury that forced him off. In the final minutes, the Rossoneri kept giving everything and created great chances but it just didn’t seem to be falling until Theo fired home a first-time finish into the far bottom corner after a great Sepe save on Rebić
