Convinced by his friend Nordahl, Gunnar Gren joined Milan in 1949 along with his fellow countryman Nils Liedholm. It was then the comeback of the Gre-No-Li trio that had made Sweden so successful in the triumphant Olympic Games in London in 1948. The trio marked an era, proving to be decisive to reconquer the Scudetto after 44 years. His extraordinary tactical intelligence allowed the midfielder to regain a spot in the national team at 38 years and obtain a prestigious second place in the World Cup on home soil.
